Are you interested in joining 4F?
Fechter’s Finger Flicking Frolic is the original close-up magic convention. For over 50 years, we have fostered creativity, collaboration, and learning in a sharing environment. Past attendees have included Eddie Fechter, Alex Elmsley, Juan Tamariz, Larry Jennings, Derek Dingle, Harry Lorayne, Sid Lorraine, Jay Marshall, Johnny Thompson, Daryl, Jerry Andrus, Lennart Green, Herb Zarrow, Bob Read, Pat Page, Max Maven and hundreds of other equally passionate magicians. As a result, it has become the most prestigious close-up convention in the world. To promote and maintain the highest standards possible and ensure we continue to attract the leaders in our field, the convention requires an invitation to attend.
To receive your first invitation, you must provide the following items:
- A recommendation letter from two different members in good standing. These letters must explain why the members feel you are a good addition to the convention.
- A five-minute video of the act you will perform at the convention. If you are a FISM, IBM, or SAM winner then you will be allowed ten-minutes, all other first timers will be given five-minutes.
These items must be submitted to 4F before December 31 to be considered for entry to the following April convention (assuming we are not sold out). If you have the requirements listed above, please reach out to us via our “Contact Us” form for submission details.
If 4F determines that the application meets its standards of excellence then an invitation will be extended to the applicant.
If the application fails to meet the standards, then an email will be sent to the applicant with an explanation.
The following abilities will be considered for application to 4F:
- Outstanding performance ability. (Performance)
- Exceptional knowledge of Magic History. (Historian)
- Extraordinary contributions in the area of creativity and originality. (Creator)
If you apply as a Performer, you will be expected to perform your five-minute act in front of the 4F audience (Up to 10 minutes for FISM, IBM, and SAM winners).
If you apply as a Historian or Creator, you will be expected to speak on your subject in front of the 4F audience for 15 minutes. The video you submit to 4F should be you speaking on your subject for 5 minutes.
The applicant must understand that poor behavior or a poor performance at the convention could result in not becoming a member of 4F.
If you are pondering joining 4F, consider the following:
Are you much better than average? 4F has some of the best close-up magicians in the world. Simply being able to perform a card or coin trick adequately will not be enough to gain entrance to 4F. You must show outstanding talent in presentation or technical ability.
We wish you good luck.
